Lutein from Marigold

The Green Leafy Vegetable Finally Takes a Back Seat:

“Lutein from the Marigold Flower...The Benefits You NEED to Know”

-September 3, 2015

Lutein is a type of carotenoid found widely in vegetables and other plants. While lutein is normally found in green leafy vegetables as well as eggs, studies have shown that one of the most absorbable forms of lutein is found in a flower called marigold.

According to a study in the October 1998 issue of The Journal of Nutrition, Lutein is used by the body as an antioxidant, which helps to fight and prevent cancer. The results of this study showed that lutein not only decreased the number of tumors in the breast, it also prevented new cancer cells from forming. The study also found that even in small dietary amounts, the lutein from marigolds had a positive effect towards its test groups. Lutein from Marigold has also been found effective against leukemia, colon and melanoma cancer cells.  Lutein is also used for wound healing. One of the main ailments that Diabetics suffer from is circulatory problems, which leads to slow wound healing. Slow wound healing can lead to infections and can ultimately lead to gangrene and amputations of limbs. When tested on rats, researchers in Brazil found that one of the mechanisms for wound healing comes from marigolds having the ability to promote the growth of new skin tissue, as well as new blood vessels that feed the skin.

The Linus Pauling Institute, a Center of Excellence for Research on Complementary and Alternative Medicine, reports that lutein is one of only 2 antioxidants that are found in the retina of the eye, where it protects the eye from the development of cataracts and macular degeneration. Because Glaucoma & Macular Degeneration are two of the most common ailments that diabetics suffer from it is important to maintain a healthy dose of Lutein & Vitamin A to promote and support healthy vision. In 2007, in a six-year study, John Paul SanGiovanni of the National Eye Institute of Maryland found that lutein protects against blindness (macular degeneration), affecting 1.2 million Americans, mostly after age 65. Lutein reduces the risk of AMD.

Because of all the research proving the tremendous health benefits of Lutein from Marigold Dr. Alcantara made sure to include Lutein from Marigold as one of the 22 key ingredients found in CinnaLife. CinnaLife Advanced Sugar Control contains 225mcg of Lutein from Marigold per serving.
